I feel really proud to call the gorgeous bride headlining this post my sister and I want to take a few paragraphs to share with you all some of MOH speech from Abby and Josh’s wedding day:
Growing up, when we would fight and bicker my mom would often remind us, “Listen girls, you’re stuck with each other forever so you might as well be each other’s best friends.” Abby is truly my best friend.
We grew up watching The Parent Trap and playing with Barbies, we got our ears pierced together , we were baptized together, and we wound up at the same university together. Abby is the kind of person who can fabricate fun and joy out of thin air and will plan her schedule around going to the top of a parking garage to watch the sunset. She loves Jesus with every fiber of her being, and it shows. She is fiercely loyal, passionate, and thoughtful. She gives the best gifts, and knows the perfect balance of when to let you cry and when to tell you to suck it up. Without her stamp of approval, Alvin wouldn’t have become my boyfriend 3 years ago, and there’s no one else I could have pictured by my side giving this same speech last July when he became my husband.
The sweet thing about family (when done right) is that you don’t leave each other. You work through the messy stuff because at the end of the day you still have to share a bathroom. You carry the same name. And even when Abby and I grew up and were no longer sharing bathrooms or even carrying the same name, we kept working through the hard things together because like mom said, we knew we were stuck with each other, but, more than that, we knew making each other each other’s best friends it was worth it. It’s so worth it.
We didn’t have an older brother to be protective of us, so we became fiercely protective of each other. Poor Josh. He had to woo not just Abby, but her crazy older sister! And ya’ll, let this speak to his character: he was willing. Josh pursued me, and was patient with me, and wanted a genuine relationship with me. He was gracious when I was cold, kind when I was curt, gentle when I was rough. If that’s how he treats me, how much more did he and will he pursue and love and care for Abby. And now Josh, she’s yours. You get to share a name, a bathroom, and call each other best friends forever. You get to pursue each other through the messy stuff knowing that it is so worth it. You get to cheer each other on and cheer each other up, in the good days and the hard days. You get to be FAMILY.
I can say with great confidence that there’s no man I’d trust more with my sister, and there’s no God I’d trust more with their marriage than our God, the ultimate pursuer of his bride and Redeemer of all things. Abby and Josh, may your marriage be a picture of these beautiful truths as you reflect Jesus’ love and grace to one another and to a watching world!
